.... and replace it with 'friends of 'The real Langley Park' or 'Friends of Langley and Black park.'
reasons for this suggestion include....
1. BP is far more popular and attracts more visitors so it will make for a larger target audience. It is larger and has more amenities and longer walks.
2. The HLF was originally considered for both parks and although it is now predominantly for LP, it also includes work on the Alder Carr which is in BP.
3. BP is really only an extension of LP and was historically all LP, including Pinewood.
4. The road bridge will in any case link the two parks and is integral to the bid. Our FOLP offices are actually in BP!?
5. BP is better known and easier to market particularly with the famous films produced in and around the lake.
6. I can walk Ossie around either park without feeling guilty!
7. We will not need to compare LP with BP and discuss and compare their merits, we can rejoice and make best advantage of both their assets.
I could go on from here but I wonder what the rest of you think!!!!
What do you say?

1)The only reason FOLP was born was because of a requirement of HLF. A group of local residends involved in running and maintaining the park 2)Where we choose to spread our efforts and devote our time, is a decision we can make to filfill our own needs and targets. We are after all a group of volunteers with no specific parameters. 3)If we involve ourselves in projects other than Langley Park the HLF will not bother as long as we remain commited to Langley Park. 4)Will the Black Park management and staff object to us poking our corporate noses into their domain?
Other than 4) above I see no problem with incorporating both p[arks under our wing |

There is no comparison between both parks at the end of the day they are of the same "Estate". - We could call ourselves the Friends of 1. BP is only more popular because of its lake, childrens adventure playground and cafe. Once we have a visitor centre and a "cafe" of sorts (and I think the cafe needs to be a good one and yes I think it needs to sell hot food as well as packaged sandwiches) and better toilets it will improve visitor numbers. I can't believe someone who has been visiting Black Park for 25 years never knew of Langley Parks existence. That's either being very blinkered or plain ignorant to my mind ! Someone not even the slightest bit interested in anything different ! FOR THIS REASON I THINK LANGLEY PARK DOES NEED PROMOTING. 3. Agreed/ Langley Park and Black Park are one and the same - the Langley Park Estate. 4. The Road Bridge would be used by horse riders and cyclists only I suspect. 5. Langley Park [green]does need promoting for its history and its flora and fauna. The only way to do this is to put on a big, very well publicised event, and I would suggest a conservation day with many conservation groups having stands etc alongside a family fun day, this can only happen once we get past this hurdle which has been put in front of us and possibly after the visitor centre has been erected, this would give new people a reason to come back again and check out the park for themselves! We also need to put on guided walks for people as Black Park does to point out the features, the flora and fauna and when and where it is likely to be seen. 6. No one needs to feel guilty about which park they use. Both Parks are lovely in their own right. The Pine Woods smell glorious after a drop of rain and is great for clearing your nose. 7. Agreed. 8. Langley Park woodland is more ancient than Black Park. There is not a great deal of undergrowth beneath the pine trees a) because much of the sunlight is block out from them being planted closely together and b) the pine needles do not encourage plant growth as it is acid soil. On the edges you may find bracken, but bracken is not fodder for any wildlife as it is poisonous. It is only for animals to hide amongst should they feel threatened. That is my views and perhaps we may get others voicing their views on the forum, which doesn't seem to be getting used by many others at present ! |

Blimey, I only suggested it to spark some debate but thinking about it, it seems to have more positives than negatives!
Re. John Chapter 1, verse 4, is not the BP management the same as LP? Does Tim not share the same responsibilities for BP as he does with Andrew as line supervisor?
Re. Mo I agree with most of your comments. Re.Chapter 2, verse 4, I think many walkers, with or without dogs would cross from one park to the other. This would extend the length and variety of walks.
Very much agree with the mega conservation day. great idea. i spoke with the munitions people today. they don't give much away. (or they don't know anything yet!)
