otherwise entitled things I have recently learnt about the Park.
This morning I found out that the car that crashed through and smahed to pieces, the gate next to the haha was found abandoned in the Temple Gardens having been driven round the rhododendron paths!
There are some very pretty and quite rare pale blue flowers in the top field very near to the haha. All the surrounding grass is brown so they stand out quite nicely. Jodie told me what they are but i have forgotten. I will find out.
People riding horses have been seen in the Temple Gardens.
Any other Park news?
How do you add smiley icons to messages? Please help!

Click on the top right symbol under 'Topic', the one that looks like a page with an arrow curled round it. This will take you to a page with a whole load of pretty icons to choose from

The most common blue flower this time of year is Chicory. It's quite a large plant growing anywhere from 12" to 48" high. For the last 300 years its' leaves have been prized on the continent as a vegetable, but it's usually the thick fleshy roots that are the main reason for growing chicory. They are dried, roasted, ground, and then either added to coffee to improve the flavour, or used in its own right as a coffee substitute. Not having seen the plant I can't confirm that it is chicory, so don't go drinking an enfusement of the roots!!! |

This flower is very delicate and very small so it is probably not chicory. I did wonder what the link was between coffee and chicory and now i know. I will ask jodie what the small blue flower is.
I also know about, and have picked some horseradish growing wild in George Green on the opposite side of the road to where Rob does his Horse show gate patrol. Not sure if we made any sauce from it but it was on the verge growing up against a wooden fence! |

I think there is only one double bin, as one of our new members described it, ''well disguised so not everyone knows it is a bin!!''
I also think we could do with some more even if only temporary for weekends. They should go on the top field alongside the picnic tables. |

We have only seen one by the entrance on the main road. Where is this double bin?
We have noticed a lot of picnic rubbish left behind, presumably because there is nowhere to put it. Also, little packages of doggy doings! Again, probably nowhere to put it.
It would be useful to have a permanent one by the toilets and picnic tables, and a few more dotted around specifically for dog owners to use.
Can this happen? If so, when? |

| We have asked about litter bins, and bins for dog droppings, but the answer we get is that the rangers do a regular litter pick, and that emtying bins would only be another job for them so they leave it as is. However there seems to be an overwhelming concensus of opinion that there should be more bins so perhaps this is an ideal place to start a movement in that direction. I for one am in favour. |

Totally agree. I can't see how walking round the park with black bags and litter pickers is less onerous than removing used litter sacks from carefully sited bins! It has to be quicker.
I also think our friends group could supply a bin or two and perhaps make some rustic bin containers.
I vote for temporary summer bins, sensibly positioned and visually as attractive as bins can be. |
